Making a Will

The simplest way to ensure your wishes are carried out after your death is to make a will. Without a will, your assets will be distributed according to your state’s law (which may not be in line with your wishes). To make sure your will is drafted according to your wishes and within the law, it’s best to see a lawyer.

Before making an appointment to see a lawyer, think carefully about how you want to distribute your property. And take the following information with you:

  • Your executor and an alternate (include address and phone number)
  • Your assets (include real estate, bank accounts, vehicles and other property)
  • Beneficiaries (the people you want to leave something to in your will)
